Government and businesses are increasingly recognising the benefits that effective public engagement and communications strategies can bring to policy delivery. At the same time, access to clear, scientifically accurate information is a prerequisite of good environmental practice. As an evidence-based orgainsation UK CEED has a unique capability in these areas.
UK CEED has the ability to deliver complex engagement projects from conception to completion, whilst understanding the environmental policy context and assisting with subsequent policy development.
The Centre has particular expertise in the areas of citizen and stakeholder engagement (including Consensus Conferences, citizens' juries and panels, online consultation). UK CEED's projects in this area have included:
- Diffuse Water Pollution from Agriculture
- UK National Consensus Conference on Radioactive Waste
- Citizens' Jury on Rural Services
- Energy White Paper public consultation for the DTI
- On-Line Consultation for DEFRA
UK CEED has also run some comprehensive education programmes:
- Bag It and Bin It - a national programme run in partnership with the UK water industry, retailers, environmental groups and local authorities.
- Navigate with Nature - a five-year partnership involving DEFRA, the European Commission, the marine industry trade association, marine companies, user groups and the RSPB.
